Supporting Our Libraries: The Role of Friends of the Library Groups

Libraries are invaluable community assets, serving as hubs of knowledge, learning, and culture. Yet, behind the shelves of books and the quiet study spaces, there’s often a group of dedicated individuals working tirelessly to support and enhance library services. These unsung heroes are members of Friends of the Library groups, integral to the success and sustainability of libraries across the world.

Each library has it’s own dedicated set of “friends.” Friends of the Beaches Branch Library (FOBBL) has worked to promote and develop library programs and to improve the services, resources, and facilities of our Beaches Branch Library for more than 45 years.

Why Were Friends of the Library Groups Created?

Friends of the Library groups originated from a simple yet profound idea: to foster community engagement and support for public libraries.
